“What will become the core of the realization of such an avatar robot is the multifingered robotic hand developed while leveraging Honda’s strengths in robotics technologies and Honda’s original AI-supported remote control function.”

The air taxi and flying car sector continues to grow and expand. Vehicle manufacturing giant Honda announced last year that they too are developing their own type of flying taxis for the future of transportation.

In what the company claims will bring people the “joy of expanding their life’s potential,” Honda announced last year they are developing the eVTOL: “electric vertical take-off and landing.”

The taxis are actually hybrids that also rely on a gas-powered turbine that has fused their newer electric technologies with it.

‘Right now, the team is working on making the eVTOL have a more extended range. The limited battery capacity means the aircraft would be best for shorter trips, such as within the city. Honda is working on extending the range and making the aircraft a bit more user-friendly. The gas turbine hybrid power unit will help realize that. Honda is working on a variety of technological advances to make the eVTOL a reality,’ Motor Biscuit explained.

On top of that, Honda is also developing a robot they call Asimo, which can also be used in conjunction with their flying taxis.

TechCrunch explained that these avatars will allow ‘the user to have a second self that performs tasks and experiences things without being there in person. Users connect and remotely control the avatar by wearing a VR headset and a tactile glove that will ultimately be able to mirror precise hand movements. The company envisions Asimo robots being used for applications like remote surgery, which will likely be very popular in developing nations that don’t have access to world-class surgeons, or space exploration, enabling an avatar version of a person to go to places that are uninhabitable or difficult to reach by humans.’

What will become the core of the realization of such an avatar robot is the multifingered robotic hand developed while leveraging Honda’s strengths in robotics technologies and Honda’s original AI-supported remote control function.

Therefore, Honda strived for an avatar robot that is capable of using its multifingered hand to make full use of tools designed for human use and performs complex tasks quickly and accurately based on the AI-supported and more intuitive control by the user.

Honda says they want to bring the robot to fruition by March of 2024, as they plan to be mostly if not totally electrified by 2030.

In an essay published by the World Economic Forum, the institution prophesizes that private ownership of cars will cease but “flying cars” will become the new mode of transportation.

First communication became digitized and free to everyone. Then, when clean energy became free, things started to move quickly. Transportation dropped dramatically in price. It made no sense for us to own cars anymore, because we could call a driverless vehicle or a flying car for longer journeys within minutes. We started transporting ourselves in a much more organized and coordinated way when public transport became easier, quicker and more convenient than the car. Now I can hardly believe that we accepted congestion and traffic jams, not to mention the air pollution from combustion engines. What were we thinking?

The WinePress has reported on these developments on other occasions. As private ownership of vehicles begin to dissipate within the next several years, the flying taxis garbage will begin to take precedence:

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
