Eat ze bugs!

If you have been following The WinePress for any length of time, you know that we’ve been constantly following the ever-growing push for plant-based and faux meats, under the guise of “sustainability” and “reducing carbon emissions.”

One of the major pushes is for the masses to accept bugs as not just a delicacy, but as part of your daily lifestyle. And we see that push again being made by Quartz.

The Indian outlet noted in their piece, “Hollywood stars have experimented with and endorsed it—Angelina Jolie’s kids eat crickets “like Doritos“—and Robert Downey Jr. has invested in the budding industry, backing French insect farm company Ynsect.” Moreover, the outlet notes “that the alternative protein source can also be expensive, and availability still varies by country depending on factors like harvesting and government regulation.”

Though the article never actually specifies which types are the healthiest, Quartz claims that they have more protein versus beef and chicken, and significantly reduce emissions compared to livestock. “Mealworm production emits between 10 and 100 times less greenhouse gases per kilogram versus pigs,” the outlet explained.

The industry is experiencing an inflection point, and insects can and will be an incredibly valuable protein source that can be obtained for good value as well.

Mohammed Ashour, co-founder and CEO of Aspire, he told Quartz. The company is currently setting up the world’s largest cricket farm in Ontario, Canada.

But how will the masses in the West better accept insects as a new mainstay of food?

We can’t start at 100—can’t show whole crickets and say add this to your stir fry. We need to turn crickets into [an] ingredient and cleverly add that ingredient to existing food without changing or compromising the taste so people can be like this is a completely neutral bland ingredient.

Ashour explained

“Options like that—yellow mealworm smoothies, biscuits, pasta, and burgers—will soon be mass produced across Europe,” Quartz also specified.

A spoonful of ants is always challenging.

Instead of starting from home, it’s easier to procure insects through restaurants. Once it percolates into someone’s house, it becomes part of the mainstream.

[1]Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2]Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3]Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. [4]For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: [5]For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

1 Timothy 4:1-5

While there are some cultures that do eat insects, which is fine, but don’t make me eat ze bugs. Regardless, the push to get the masses off real meats will be accomplished soon enough. But bugs and plants are just a stepping-stone, in my view, as full-on cannibalism is in the future, as noted in other WP reports.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • There are some cultures that eat and I wish this was a joke, that eat tarantula! Cambodia, and in the Amazon, the Goliath tarantula! No thanks, I’d rather go into combat and eat war cakes which were made of flour, water, and salt and roasted over a fire during the American revolution.

  • Soon they could be making and delivering bug bars to the poor people for free when famine kicks in. Yuck yuck!

  • If some vacuous movie star like Angelina Jolie serves crickets up to her kids, that is even more reason to reject this disgusting new trend. This is the same person who supposedly had both her breasts removed because she might get breast cancer.
