Americans year-over-year have been reading the Bible less and less, and now a new study says that Bible usage has completely fallen off a cliff and into a ravine.

AUTHOR’S NOTE: The WinePress advocates and uses only the King James Bible, but unless otherwise indicated, ‘The Bible’ in this report is referring the corpus of the umpteenth different versions that all claim to be The Bible.

The WinePress reported almost exactly one year ago that church attendance in the U.S. fell below 50% for the first time ever, at 47%, continuing a trend that saw membership decline annually.

According to recently published data and surveys from the American Bible Society in their yearly “State of the Bible” progress report, the authors note that this downward trend is nothing necessarily new, but ever since 2020 the amount of Bible readers and users has fallen off the tracks, with 2022 so far seeing a monumental dive.

2,598 U.S. adults responded to their polls.

First, we noticed an unprecedented drop in the percentage of Bible Users in the United States. In every study since 2018, Bible Users have accounted for between 47 and 49 percent of American adults; however, the 2022 data showed a 10-percent decrease from the same time in 2021.

That means nearly 26 million Americans reduced or stopped their interaction with Scripture in the past year.

The organization said, defining “Bible Users” as “those who use the Bible at least 3–4 times each year on their own, outside of a church setting.”

The continued by noting:

Second, our concern deepened when we looked at the Scripture engagement numbers for the United States. One in five Americans left the Scripture Engaged category in the past year (−21% or 14.7 million adults), and two in five left the Movable Middle (−44% or 28.7 million adults). Only the Bible Disengaged category grew, and at an alarming rate, up by 38% (45.2 million adults) in a single year.

Finally, when we looked at the average Scripture Engagement score for Bible Users, we noticed something we hadn’t seen before: the Scripture Engagement Scale score for Bible Users was down to M = 96.7, and the variability was up to SD = 17.1. By design, the average Scripture Engagement score for Bible Users should be near M = 100 with SD = 15 points. Typically, we have found that Bible Users score very near those marks. In 2022, though, even Bible Users saw a decrease in their overall Scripture engagement.

(The metrics and how these scores are determined can seen in the appendix of their document).

The chart below shows the overall impact the Bible has among those who use it. Another words, they read it but then how much of it resonates with the reader and puts into practice.

A composite score of the impact of the scriptures to those polled.
SE02.1, SE02.2, and SE02.3 represent how “users feel connected to God.”
SE03.1, SE03.2, and SE03.3 represent how “reading the Bible in the past month has influenced their
feelings and behaviors toward others (i.e. their willingness to engage in their faith and behave generously and lovingly toward others).”
Each line correlates to the following criteria:
Frequency: how often people interact with the Bible.
Spiritual Impact: how the Bible influences people’s relationships with God and others.
Moral Centrality: how the Bible influences people’s dayto-day choices and decisions.

Another chart demonstrates the overall Bible engagement year-over-year, already showing that 2022 is down drastically, while disengagement is screaming higher.

The “‘Movable Middle’ [are] people [who] come to the Bible for the first time, they start in the Movable Middle before continuing into the Scripture Engaged category as they connect more deeply with God in the Bible. But they could also move the other way, their commitment lapsing to the point of disengagement.”

Of those considered still “scripturally engaged,” 58% of them are women. Elderly, those over 77, are to have the most engagement as a whole, with each generation being lower and lower.

The survey also found that 45% of those polled said the nation would be in even worse situation if everyone were to just stop reading the Bible outright.

So what are the main reasons for such a decline? Those polled gave their thoughts as to why the Bible is not being read and taken seriously anymore: blaming parental negligence, media influence, addiction to social media, an overall disrespect for the Bible, and influence from politicians.

And as shown in another chart, hardly anyone of those that still are reading the Bible believe it to be truly perfect and truly without error. Whereas the most voted group of people claimed that the word of God is inspired but a lot of it is more figurative and not meant to be taken literally.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

There are SO many scriptures – from the real Bible, the King James – that I could go off on a tangent about, but I’ll spare you and keep it short. But, to preface, there are some things to note:

Firstly, while this definitely gives us a glimpse of what is going on with Americans, these numbers are certainly skewed. These “Christian” organizations always ask questions that force the responder to give them a predetermined response, clouding up the real truth. For example, a question that never-ever shows up, or will, is the use if Bible versions: which is a massive factor when answering these questions. The American Bible Society absolutely HATES the KJB, and has worked hard to promote their new versions; and have greatly aided in this apostasy. Talk to an atheist, agnostic, Muslim, etc., and they will point out the hypocrisy of having scores of contradicting books, while the fakes claim they all are inspired and say the same thing.

Secondly, we have to question just how honest the respondents were. Many of them I am sure wanted to boost their egos and make themselves holier than they are.

Nevertheless, what we are seeing is what the King James Bible said would literally happen:

[2] Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. [3] For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; [4] And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2 Timothy 4:2-4

Furthermore, in my report about the how the church buildings are being weaponized against you, as the pastors act as informants to the government, I said this:

[1] This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, [4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; [5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. [6] For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, [7] Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. [8] Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. [9] But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

2 Timothy 3:1-9

I won’t elaborate too much on verse 1-5, as you can visually see and feel for yourself that that is panning out, as it is prophesized to happen. But what I want to hone in on is verses 8 and 9:

For those that do not know, this is the first and only time Jannes and Jambres are mentioned in scripture. (This is an example of direct inspiration from the Holy Ghost, written down by Paul, revealing an Old Testament truth long over a millennia apart). But, most people do not know this story Paul is referencing. In the early part of the book of Exodus, when Moses and Aaron were before Pharaoh demanding that he free their Jewish brethren from slavery; there were also two magicians that stood with Pharaoh, that acted as his “spiritual advisors,” we’ll call them. As a witness to, not just the Jews (who required a sign (1 Cor 1:22)), but “unto all men,” God would work miracles, signs and wonders, amongst them all as proof of his power. It was “three on three: the Lord, Moses, and Aaron; versus Pharaoh, Jannes and Jambres. But the magicians actually copied the first three of ten miracles performed.

[9] When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. [10] And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. [11] Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. [12] For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods. [13] And he hardened Pharaoh’s heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

Exodus 7:9-13

And this went on a few times, but wen it came to the fourth, the magicians failed, when trying to mimic the plague of lice throughout the land:

[18] And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. [19] Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

[10] And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast. [11] And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians.

Exodus 8:18-19, 9:10-11

They were exposed for the frauds that they were. And just like today with all these fakers playing Christian – from the pastor to the pews – they have a “form of godliness, but deny the power thereof!”

These fakes among what I call “churchianity” were already being exposed and pointed out for their total hypocrisy, on basically everything, but 2020 showed the world just how fake they were, across all denominations, sects, and cults. They kept their pie-holes shut, closed their doors, and went along with the social distancing, masking, Covid surveillance, vaccine drives and promotions. Why? Not only because they are cowards and fakes, they had to comply to the government or risk losing their paychecks and tax breaks, and be reported to the state, and lose their mirage of worship to the Lord.

You can read the rest of my rant in that report, but, as you can see, the fakes are revealing themselves, and 2020 was that catalyst.

Simply put, so many of the hypocrites who were never saved (and even some who just might be), are finally giving up the act. They saw how fake their religion was in 2020, and is, moving forward, along with themselves; and they just decided, many of them, that they will just embrace the fakeness and stop putting on the act. And this will only increase exponentially from where it already is now.

Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

Proverbs 13:13
[24] Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. [25] Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them: and the hills did tremble, and their carcases were torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Isaiah 5:24-25

And yet, people wonder why this nation is utterly falling apart from every which angle. Simply put: if you reject his word, the Lord will reject you and the nation. To turn away from the truth and blessings by God is far-far worse than a nation that was never a Bible-reading land to start with.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • Hey, what do you expect when a bunch of unsaved people try to read the Bible? Of course they’ll quit, they have no spiritual understanding.

1 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

And the modern perversions aren’t enough to keep them interested because those are nothing but dead books with dead spirits in them! Only the King James Bible can TRULY draw a person to the Lord and KEEP him there.

Psalm 19:7-11 (KJV) The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

    • Isaiah 30:10
10 which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:

      Hebrews 12:5-7
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 for whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Yea, plus most people, lost and even some of the saved, don’t want to hear from true preachers or read in the KJB that God can be harsh with his judgments and chastisements, even if you’re saved. It can be a hard truth to swallow sometimes when we have sins we are still attached to.

      • Proverbs 27:7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
People just read the Bible to “have a better Monday” anymore, if it all. All they want to do is talk about “God is love” and the “fruit the Spirit.” And even THAT’S a stretch!

        • They want to talk about their own imagined figment “jesus” who’s all flowers and gummy bears and butterflies and rainbows and lollipops and long walks in the park.

If they hear about the real Jesus, they’ll either get angry or scared. Scared there’s hope. Angry, chances of getting saved and repenting will be 50/50.

  • America is finished and the first place where the judgement will begin will be the professing christians and the church buildings!
These hirelings are whining like spoiled teenage girls over “what’s causing teenagers to be drinking-smoking pot-getting pregnant, and why are there so many unsaved people, why there’s so many evils in this world, and why America has so many unbelievers,” blah blah blah, now that I’m getting ahold of the truth the King James Bible and true believers Glory to God for it, now I can say to these hirelings and church buildings: “look in the mirror!”

  • Jacob, someone told me there are books that the catholic church deliberately left out like the book of Enoch? Can you explain more about this? I’m afraid I’m pretty ignorant about these things, and while I try to read the KJV, I do have a hard time with the language of it. I have a beautiful study bible which is immensely helpful, but even it seems to skip over things that I need explained. Also, on a different topic, have you seen the Watch the Water premiere where they talk about remdesivir and actual covid being snake venom?

    • The book of Enoch is a gnostic text someone made up along the way, stealing scriptures to try and make it sound legit. Not only are there no direct quotations from this book in the other inspired 66 books we have now, the book of Enoch teaches at one point an angel granted someone God’s omniscience, which is obviously blasphemy and just reeks of Gnosticism.
