A consortium of companies and the United Kingdom have unveiled blueprints to construct a 165-mile (265km) drone “superhighway” that would link the Midlands to the south east coast of the U.K. A verdict to begin the project will be decided in several weeks.
Project Skyway, as it’s called, is led by Altitude Angel, a software provider for traffic mitigation, will reportedly allow businesses to flourish via commercialization per cutting-edge drone-based products, services, and processes.
More specifically, this new aerial highway would chain together the cities of Reading, Oxford, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Coventry, and Rugby. The proposal also allows the option to extend into Ipswich on the east coast, and into the more coastal areas of Southampton.
This is the most ambitious transport project proposed for the country since the advent of the railway network in the 18th century.
Britain is at the forefront of a second transport revolution. Drones have the potential to transport goods in a way our ancestors could never have imagined but would have surely understood.
Britain can lead the world in these innovative and life-saving technologies, we have the skills and ambition to open our skies to safe and secure drone and air-taxi flights.
With the Government’s support, using this technology as its foundation, we can create networks spanning the length and breadth of Britain, a super-highway-network-in-the-sky, providing a critical digital infrastructure which will, in-turn, enable the world’s first truly national drone economy.
Richard Parker, founder and CEO of Altitude Angel
Smart Cities World notes, Altitude Angel ‘explained that unlike existing drone corridors or research facilities which restrict access to operators by imposing punitive financial barriers to fly, the superhighway will be able to support fully automated drone flights beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) from any drone company completing a series of basic technical integrations which, crucially, don’t require specialist hardware on-board the drone.’
Furthermore, the outlet detailed, ‘Using detect and avoid (DAA) technology developed on the five-mile (8km) Arrow Drone Zone built by Altitude Angel south of Reading, the consortium said the Skyway superhighway network will help unlock the potential offered by unmanned aerial vehicles and be a catalyst to enable growth in the urban air mobility industry.’
Once this initial drone highway is established, Altitude Angel said that they will offer their technology to allow companies, airports, cities in the U.K. or beyond, who also have interest in developing their aerial drone network system, that is fast and cost effective.
In their visionary essay for the year 2030, the World Economic Forum wrote about flying cars in these future smart cities the world is building, though never referred to them as drones.
First communication became digitized and free to everyone. Then, when clean energy became free, things started to move quickly. Transportation dropped dramatically in price. It made no sense for us to own cars anymore, because we could call a driverless vehicle or a flying car for longer journeys within minutes. We started transporting ourselves in a much more organized and coordinated way when public transport became easier, quicker and more convenient than the car. Now I can hardly believe that we accepted congestion and traffic jams, not to mention the air pollution from combustion engines. What were we thinking?
Agenda 2030: You’ll Own Nothing And Be Happy
AUTHOR COMMENTARY
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Daniel 12:4
In my report on Agenda 2030, I commented that I did not believe the flying car thing would ever come to pass. However, if these plans in the U.K. and abroad really do come to fruition, I will probably have to retract that statement.
If you are like me when you read “flying car,” you probably got the visual of something from The Jetsons or Star Wars: not some oversized baby carriage with propellers. But if these drones, and things like it, are what the Forum was referring to, then perhaps that too will also come to pass, just like everything they are pushing for.
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

I’m in the UK and they have decreased the speed to 50 mph, whilest shutting down motorway lanes for years all over the country and upgraded them to smart motorways – which has solid concrete walls in-between. I guess the process must be complete.
So, they take to the air. And, wrong kind of ‘angel’. Looks like target practice time, be sure to wear your mandated mask, & then some. Carry a cat to confuse the ‘biometrics’ readings.
