Today shoppers in the United Kingdom may see that that their credit and debit cards have been deactivated, forcing holders to receive verification from their banks.
Per a new rule change called the Strong Customer Authentication (SCA), retailers must verify if the purchaser is really them. This is accomplished by the card holder’s bank sending a verification code to the person’s smart phone when they buy something online. Before the payment is approved, the user must apply the code at the checkout stage.
There are options for the retailer to send the code via email, but shoppers may be prompted to approve the payments via their mobile banking apps.
If the retailer cannot verify if the transaction is legitimate, or a retailer is not setup to verify these codes, the payment maybe declined.
The British Chronicle Live explains, ‘the idea behind the move is to create a new layer of security to protect shoppers and their money, but some banks have already warned their customers that card payments could be declined as some retailers may not be ready by March 14.’
As we get closer to the regulatory date, the number of times you’ll notice you’re asked to verify it’s you making the payment will increase.
If the retailer isn’t ready for the new process, there could be times when your card might be declined.

This is not expected to occur each transaction, as MasterCard reportedly estimates that it will be 1 out of every 4 times these prompts will occur.
Other retailers may be exempt for this if the transaction is deemed ‘low-value’ and to be at ‘minimal risk’ for banks.

[16] And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: [17] And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. [18] Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.Revelation 13:16-18
Anything and everything these days are being tied down to something that involves codes, scanners, and biometrics. More specifically, that stupid smart phone garbage. Simply put: the only way to avoid this stuff is to get rid of the smart phone.
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
