The following report is from Smart Cities World:
Santa Maria Regional Transit (SMRT) is introducing a new mobile application and touchless fare collection for its public transportation system.
Fare collection system provider Modeshift designed and implemented the new system, which includes contactless payment options and trip planning tools for riders, to help improve the safety, efficiency, and usability for riders. Modeshift provided both the user-facing technology and the underlying digital mobility infrastructure for the platform launch.
Free Bus Passes
SMRT will also offer free bus passes to students attending Allan Hancock College, which will be accessible through the new mobile app. According to the agency, as fewer than half of students own cars on campus, these students will benefit from better access to public transportation.
This will contribute to building a stronger sustainability-oriented community that values public transportation as a means to reduce carbon emissions.
We’re excited to partner with Modeshift to offer a free option for students so that affordable, accessible transit is one less thing to worry about when getting their education.
Our students are largely dependent on public transit to get to their classes, extracurricular activities, and jobs, so this initiative is very important.
Said Cindy Morrison, transit grants and project manager of the City of Santa Maria.
Features of the mobile app will include:
- contactless payments: riders can purchase all fare products for both SMRT routes and Breeze routes within the application. The SMRT mobile application is live (free on iTunes and Google Play)
- electronic validation: users can redeem their fares by scanning a QR code at electronic validators installed on 35 buses across the city
- trip planner functionality: information is integrated from vehicle location and dispatch systems so riders can easily plan their trip while on the go.
The Covid-19 pandemic created a need for contactless transit fare collection to encourage social distancing, so Modeshift is proud to work with the City of Santa Maria to create a safer and more accessible mobile application for transit.
Digital transformation will continue to be essential for public transit to meet the shifting preferences of riders, so this is only the beginning.
Added Miroslav Katsarov, CEO of Modeshift.
Modeshift is a technology company with the mission of enabling transit agencies of all sizes to provide intelligent transportation services. Its core product is an account-based fare collection system based on the Microsoft Azure cloud and delivered as a service.
Modeshift said its digital mobility infrastructure offers capabilities for the further expansion of the system to all public transportation needs, including mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) options.
AUTHOR COMMENTARY
[16] And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: [17] And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. [18] Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.Revelation 13:16-18
Katsarov’s words demonstrate one of the many underlying goals of this Covid shamdemic, which was to eliminate all physical transactions, and replace it with biometrics and contactless payment measures. And here we see yet another fulfilment.
Give it a little more time, and people’s Covid vaccine status and social credit score will be linked to that.
The REAL Reason Sweden Did Not Lockdown
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
