“This innovative 5G-based project offers us a quicker and more efficient way to identify which assets need maintenance, and to get the information to the work crews. Simply put, this project will help Council respond faster to assets that need maintenance.”

In an effort to demonstrate the effectiveness and necessity for 5G and Internet of Things (IOT) integration and support for smart cities, Swinburne University of Technology in Australia has teamed with the Brimbank City Council to unveil new smart waste collecting trucks.

These trucks utilize high-definition cameras and GPS sensors to immediately detect street and roadside services that need repair.

The federal government is funding this project to the tune of $1.18 Australian dollars, and is being deployed in the metropolitan areas of Melbourne.

‘The rich data captured from the connected devices will be sent in real-time to a cloud-based system that can create an easy-to-use map of assets that require maintenance, such as road signs, bus shelters or damaged roads,’ reports Smart Cities World.

Technicians are hoping this technology will greatly reduce the time it takes to analyze and fix problems that arise, that will ultimately reduce employee fees, and save a reported 50% on asset auditing costs.

The cameras attached to the trucks compile 3D perception data at 900 megabits per second – which is almost 21 times faster than the downloads speeds for Australians in 2020, of 43 megabits per second.

On top of this, Smart Cities World says, ‘The garbage trucks travel across every street in the council area each week and need to transmit the data in real-time while moving at varying speeds.’ This will help the researchers test the 5G capabilities for this technology, as this type of environment is perfect for observation and practice.

The information will then be amassed and then made accessible by maintenance crew in real-time from their phones.

Residents have told us via the community survey that improving the appearance of Brimbank’s roads, road signs, bus stop shelters and roadside spaces is a high priority.

This innovative 5G-based project offers us a quicker and more efficient way to identify which assets need maintenance, and to get the information to the work crews. Simply put, this project will help Council respond faster to assets that need maintenance.

[The] Council is pleased to be working with Swinburne University and Optus on this ground-breaking project. Our project will also lead the way for other councils considering 5G based solutions for road and roadside asset condition monitoring.

They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.

Lamentations 4:18

It’s trash today, and then YOU tomorrow. And on top of that, this is another form of secret police. Consider: if you are an Aussie (and anyone else when this spreads to other nations), if you are caught littering, throwing out excess food, not recycling, etc.; your social credit score will get docked.

Welcome to the world in 2022: even the trashman is spying on you.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
