“We will use our cars less and be able to rely on a convenient, cost-effective and coherent public transport network.”

Government officials in the United Kingdom are debating removing the right to private ownership of vehicles, and to be replaced with a more “shared transport” approach moving forward.

Trudy Harrison, the Transport Minister, signaled this could spark the end of gasoline and diesel-powered cars and trucks to meet future pollution regulations. She is open to any new proposals that would be “fit for the future” of road travel.

She believes that the U.K. needs to move away from “20th-century thinking centred around private vehicle ownership”. She also finds it “staggering” that roughly two-thirds of commuting trips are just the driver and no one else.

The Nottingham Post also notes that Harrison feels the U.K. is at a “tipping point” and carpooling would soon become a “realistic option” for many.

[It will soon be a] realistic option for many of us to get around.

Where mobility hubs become a familiar part of our street architecture, and where all these options will be available to book and pay for at the touch of a smartphone.

The challenge is to move further and faster to make shared mobility less of a novelty and increasing the norm to make it as easy, as convenient and as accessible as possible.

I think the benefits are really significant.

From clean air to healthier populations to greater connectivity for more people, no matter where they live.

Harrison told delegates at the Collaborative Mobility UK transport conference

The government has voiced similar sentiments previously, such as the case in March of 2021 where Transport Secretary Grant Shapps stated the future of public transportation will be the “natural first choice” instead of personal vehicle ownership, sooner rather than later.

Public transport and active travel will be the natural first choice for our daily activities.

We will use our cars less and be able to rely on a convenient, cost-effective and coherent public transport network.

And according to the government statistics, most vehicle travel that was 5 miles or less, represented 58% of all private car journeys in 2019. Therefore, the government sees this as one of the “biggest opportunities” to get citizens to convert to walking and cycling for these short distances.

The U.K.’s Transport Decarbonisation Plan calls for more shared mobility schemes – schemes that would “offer an alternative to traditional mass transit,” and “car club” (a form of rental services) programs overtime.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

As I always say, these climate initiatives have nothing to do with cleaning up the environment: it’s solely about control, hence, why private ownership must dissipate. Moreover, this is why it is said of the future for the masses: “You’ll Own Nothing And Be Happy.”

Agenda 2030: You’ll Own Nothing And Be Happy

These goals fall right in line with the Absolute Zero goals that were established before 2020 came to pass: “Development of petrol/diesel engines ends; Any new vehicle introduced from now on must be compatible with Absolute Zero;” “All new vehicles electric, average size of cars reduces to ~1000kg;” and “Rapid reduction in supply and use of all fossil fuels, except for oil for plastic production.”

These “car clubs” will of course be electric, and will be the size of a lady bug, and the two passages will be showed in their like sardines in a can.

Agenda Absolute Zero: You’ll Be Enslaved And Be Happy

Like it or not, get used to walking and riding more. It’s the hand of cards being dealt. But it’s good for you to get some exercise, the way people did it for thousands of years.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
