New Archeological Evidence Affirms That Sodom And Gomorrah Was Destroyed By Fire And Brimstone, But Scientists Are In Denial

Many people have heard of the infamous destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah – how God rained down fire and brimstone on the city for it’s abominations. The King James Bible summarizes for what reason:

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

Jude 7 & 2 Peter 2:6

Now, new archeological data compiled by some researchers believe that their evidence suggests that some sort meteor struck the city of Sodom, burning it to a crisp.

The scientists described it as a ‘giant space rock’ that exploded over the city approximately 3,650 years, creating some sort of a fireball.

However, the scientists believe that this destruction is perhaps the real reason the walls of Jericho – a city that is roughly 20 miles away – fell down, rather than the Lord himself who caused the walls to fall down, as written in of Joshua 6, and even referenced in the New Testament – two separate events that occurred many centuries apart.

By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.

Hebrews 11:30

Nevertheless, the scientists are positive that some sort of “heavenly event” really did occur, but a differently than what the Bible describes.

The city of Sodom was located around the city of Jordan, near the Jordan river and around the Dead Sea. Today, the epicenter of Jordan is called Tall el-Hammam. The researchers said they found a flattened palace, along with destroyed walls and other structures around the perimeter.

These team of scientists believe that this meteorite of sorts detonated 2.5 miles above the city, creating a blast radius of a 740 mph shock wave.

Further more, fragmental remains of people suggested that they had been blown up or incinerated. Other metals such as Iron and Silica in the soil were found to have been melted.

We saw evidence for temperatures greater than 2,000 degrees Celsius.

There is evidence of a large cosmic fireball, close to Tall el-Hammam.

I think one of the main discoveries is shocked quartz. These are sand grains containing cracks that form only under very high pressure. We have shocked quartz from this layer. That means there were incredible pressures involved to shock the quartz crystals. Quartz is one of the hardest minerals. It is very hard to shock.

Professor James Kennett of the University of California at Santa Barbara, lead study author, said in a statement

An international team further found shards of pottery and building materials were turned into glass. Heat bubbles were found in mud bricks. Therefore, the evidence collected led the researchers to believe that this must be evidence of the destruction of Sodom.

Kennett draws comparisons to the meteor that evolutionary scientists believe wiped dinosaurs off the face of the earth, but the one they believed destroyed Sodom was on a much smaller scale.

Furthermore, the team found high concentrations of salt in the basement layer of the dirt, which is unusual. To this end, they believe this fireball would have caused this.

The salt was thrown up due to the high impact pressures.

On top of that, due to the location of Sodom, the team believes this would have carried many rich salt deposits into the Dead Sea.

And it may be [that] the impact partially hit the Dead Sea, which is rich in salt.

It should be noted that even though Sodom and Gomorrah get most of the attention, two lesser known cites – Admah and Zeboim – were also destroyed in like manner by the Lord. These cities would have surrounded the other parts of the Dead Sea. There are some debates as to the exact locations of each city, but we do know they were all in the general area of the Dead Sea.

And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

Deuteronomy 29:23

But regardless, the scientists are in denial to the idea that this evidence really is judgment and wrath from the Lord, or is even truly the city of Sodom.

All the observations stated in Genesis are consistent with a cosmic fireball. But there is no scientific proof this destroyed city is indeed the Sodom of the Old Testament.

Instead, Kennett and his team believe this destruction beget ancient folklore and oral traditions that were later penned down in the book of Genesis. Furthermore, they believe this explains why the city of Jericho would have also been destroyed, and their walls tumbling down.

It is an incredibly culturally important area. It is where much early cultural complexity of humans developed.

This is typical, classic atheists proclaiming their folly. They found irrefutable proof that Sodom (or at least one of the aforementioned cities) was destroyed by fire and brimstone (another word for Sulphur). So what do they do? Change their “science” to say it was some sort of an asteroid akin to the make-believe one that killed the dinosaurs. The biblical account in Genesis clearly said it RAINED fire and brimstone. So now these God-hating atheists have to change their evidence, as an alibi to say “see, the Bible is not true.”

Just like they deny the flood, it’s total and utter willful ignorance:

[3] Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, [4] And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. [5] For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: [6] Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: [7] But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

2 Peter 3:3-7

The bottom line is that the Lord rained fire and brimstone on Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim; and it was because of their abominable sins that they committed. That very same judgment is coming again, but on a global and more catastrophic scale.

[24] Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; [25] And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. [26] But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. [27] And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: [28] And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
