The following report is from Study Finds:
Fasting may be the most effective way to overcome serious bacterial illnesses, like salmonella, a new study reveals. Scientists from the University of British Columbia say fasting changes the body’s gut microbiome, making it more able to protect against full-on infections.
In experiments with mice, researchers restricted food for 48 hours before and during a case of food poisoning using the bacteria Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. This strain of germs is a common source of foodborne illnesses in people.
Until now, it’s been unclear whether avoiding food protects a patient from bacterial infection or increases their vulnerability to food poisoning. The new study finds fasting actually decreased the signs of bacterial infection in comparison to mice who continued to eat while sick. Moreover, fasting eliminated almost all of the tissue damage and inflammation in the mice’s intestines.
‘Fasting Or Calorie Restriction Has Potential To Beneficially Modulate GI Diseases’
When researchers fed fasting mice a day after their experiment, they discovered a dramatic spike in Salmonella bacteria invading the intestinal walls. However, the team did note that inflammation was still under control thanks to the previous day’s fast.
Study authors also report that the results did not hold true when they introduced Salmonella to the mice’s bodies intravenously. Additionally, fasting did not full protect germ-free mice from Salmonella contamination; these are mice which lack a normal gut microbiome. The team says these findings suggest that fasting directly affects the makeup of healthy bacteria in the gut, helping the body to fight off invading germs people ingest.
Scientists discovered the same results when they switched from Salmonella to another bacteria, called Campylobacter jejuni.
These data suggest that therapeutic fasting or calorie restriction has the potential to beneficially modulate infectious and potentially non-infectious gastrointestinal diseases.
Our research highlights the important role that food plays in regulating interactions between the host, enteric pathogens and the gut microbiome. When food is limited, the microbiome appears to sequester the nutrients that remain, preventing pathogens from acquiring the energy they need to infect the host. While more research is needed, fasting or otherwise adjusting food intake could be exploited therapeutically to modulate infectious diseases in the future.
The researchers write in a media release.
The study appears in the journal PLOS Pathogens.

[16] Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. [17] But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; [18] That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.Matthew 6:16-18
I know some might question the legitimacy of this study due to the usage of mice, but The WinePress have done reports about intermittent fasting before; and the science is real and it works, for not just losing weight, but for energy and repair of the body, and a slew of other benefits.
The reason why fasting was never promoted for so long is because there is no money in saying ‘Don’t eat.’ It is only getting attention now because of the internet and the ever increasing studies that are finding it works. I have done it for a while, and I have a lost a significant amount of weight without sacrificing muscle in the process.
The Amazing Benefits Of Intermittent Fasting
New Study Finds That Intermittent Fasting Improves Long-Term Memory
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

Fasting has many benefits indeed, but I unfortunately experience keto rash. And it’s not fun. I’m not sure why it happens…
Could be genetic at that point. I am not physician so I would not know. Maybe your blood sugar gets too low?

Thank you. I’ll check it out~
Considering viruses don’t exist and bacteria doesn’t cause disease, I’d say it’s far more likely that fasting allows your body to detox the poisons that it’s exposed to everyday. Many times fasting can make someone quite sick if they’re dumping too much toxic gunk too fast. This has happened to me. It passes but it’s miserable…
Viruses do exist & bacteria can cause disease….they are forms of genetic information, & relate to the good seed and bad seed world of God & truth versus Satan’s lies corrupting truth, editing & adding to, subtracting from. Both the terrain, the soil, and the seed matter, & we live in a fallen world. Viruses are parasitical things that are incomplete genetically, not technically alive independently. The claim of ‘exosomes’ and ‘neutrality’ is a distractor, an evolutionary pagan cast to throw folks off & draw them into their ‘side’, their ‘unity’. The ‘allopathic’ & ‘natural’ (in the pagan sense, the ‘natural man’) false dialectic choices. Receiving either ‘system’ as the only choices, ruling out the whole truth of the matter ….is a trick. Bondage. More sorcery and science falsely so-called. And I believe that proving the claims & interpretations of evident truth by the scriptures will bear that out.
Check into leptin resistance & insulin resistance, and the benefits of cyclical fasting. It’s a shame that Mercola’s vast store of information & the growing body of evidence & experimentation on this has been taken down, but there IS still the Wayback Machine, & you can access what he is still putting up for 48 hours & make hard copy. August 8th, 2021 archived article & his Ivor Cummins interview (rational but no Christian), discusses the failings of hardcore keto, & need for metabolic flexibility.
An all protein, or all carbs diet either one can result in harm. The form, balance & preparation of those things all matter for optimal health. There must be the complete interplay of healthy lipids, carbs & proteins in proper balance in the diet or else the body terrain & signaling are overwhelmed & proper signaling & function are coarsened, dulled & lost. I think of it as being like ‘all scripture is given of God, & is useful…”, rightly divided, and in proper order & context, that is….and the dulling & coarsening of conscience.
Thankfully, God is plenteous in mercy & provides for us abundantly, & is long-suffering to usward so that there is resiliance & repentance brings healing in all but the grossest cases: consequence & reaping what we sow is real….but God is not karmic or cruel, & will not put out the smoking flax or bruise the broken reed. He is with us in our sufferings.
Highly processed foods are the worst, & gmo’s…..or the abusive & illegitimate use of drugs when natural food & supplements, or lifestyle change, would be just as effective, & without the damaging effects of the patentable artificial crafted things which are poisons & extremes which tend to throw everything out of kilter: legal or illegal.
I can’t fast absolutely either, & it used to frustrate & vex me that I couldn’t ‘fast properly’ until the Lord showed me that it was presumptuous & ritualistic to approach it like that. God deals with us individually & from where we are when we repent & come to him in faith to the new birth, convicting, maturing & chastening according to our own relationship with him & faithful participation …or lack of participation, doublemindedness etc, in that relationship with the manna of the word of God. It makes sense that it would be the same with our physical & temporal bodies & food.
Over time I learned to do modified fasts & juice fasts so I didn’t end up making signaling imbalances worse, or release too many toxins, to make matters worse. When my rational faculties are dulled, I back off a bit. The balance of proper fats/lipids, proteins & carbs is really key, with clean water & good mineral intake….signaling electrolytes which are crucial…..and gentle & gradual detoxification will keep you going while your overworked signaling & metabolism are toned & healed so that leptin & insulin resistance resolve. This world is wicked & all flesh is corruptible, but God is good & this world is not our home: we’re pilgrims passing through, our citizenship is transferred, our inheritance, including the ultimate transformation & resurrection of this corruptible flesh sure. 1 Corinthians 15 is so very, very rich and relates to all of this.
