People are “supposed to have common sense,” said Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, angerly pointing the finger at the vaccine hesitant – which are reported to be causing a rise in outbreaks and new hospitalizations.
It’s time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks, not the regular folks. It’s the unvaccinated folks that are letting us down.
Ivey stated at a Birmingham event Thursday night that aired by the CBS WIAT affiliate.
The governor said she cannot understand why people are willing to “mess around with temporary stuff,” as the vaccines are said to be the ‘long-lasting tool for wrangling the virus,’ according to the Washington Times.
She said that almost all of the new hospitalizations and deaths are from those who are not vaccinated.
These folks are choosing a horrible lifestyle of self-inflicted pain. Y’all, we’ve got to get folks to take the shot. The vaccine is the greatest weapon we have to fight COVID, the data proves it.
A reporter asked Ivey what would be the best way to ‘get people off the sidelines.’ Ivey replied with, “I don’t know, you tell me.”
Ivey was reported to have taken a Covid vaccine in December.
Roughly one third (33%) of Alabama has been inoculated for Covid-19, making it lowest ranked state along with Mississippi amongst all the rest.
‘About 49% of the U.S. population is vaccinated. The rates for Alabama and Mississippi are around 34%,’ says the report.
According to the report from the Times, the main reasons Alabamians are rejecting the vaccines are because they have animosity about the known adverse events the vaccines cause, believing that the risks outweigh the reward, and because they only have “emergency approval” from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USDA).
In May, Governor Ivey passed a bill that banned vaccine passports for businesses and other state institutions.
