Senate Overwhelmingly Passes Major Spending Bill To Bailout Big Tech To Compete With China

Several days ago the United States Senate passed a bipartisan bill to generate spending to give to major technology companies in order to compete with China.

On Tuesday, June 8th, the Senate voted 68-32 to pass the United States Innovation and Competition Act to out-compete China, with a focus on further research and development of artificial intelligence (AI), funds to create more semiconductors more closer to the homeland.

This vote, according to MarketWatch, took place the same day the Biden administration announced a new framework and outline for dealing with supply chain issues, including the production of semiconductors, mining of rare earth minerals and creation of advanced batteries, and efforts to ‘address bottlenecks with a “whole of government” approach.’

As other countries continue to invest in their own research and development, we cannot risk falling behind. America must maintain its position as the most innovative and productive nation on Earth.

The House of Representatives has its own U.S.-China-related bills in the works, but since the Senate bill was a bipartisan effort, there is a strong potential this new bill could get passed before the House leaves for recess.

The this new spending package includes $50 billion dollars over five years to increase rapidly increase chip production domestically, additional incentives and funding for more research and development.

The bill also calls for more innovation and research at academic centers from foreign intervention, arrangements to compete with China’s Belt and Road Initiative globally, analysis of Chinese entities in U.S. capital markets, and a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Space.com also reports that $10 billion has been allocated to for the expansion of private crewed moon landers for NASA.

Another part of the spending goes to new directives on AI and quantum science, working with the National Science Foundation – authorizing $29 billion over the course of five years for this new branch within the foundation, plus $52 billion for its programs.

Some other provisions include targeting money-laundering schemes, addressing national security threats and concerns, and cyberattacks associated with individuals on the behest of the Chinese government.

There are “buy America” plans to boost infrastructure plans as well.

Another provision includes prohibiting money used for the Wuhan Institute of Virology in light of evidence related to Covid-19 virus outbreak.

Overall, the bill will increase spending to $250 billion – or a quarter of a trillion dollars, according to the AP.

The premise is simple, if we want American workers and American companies to keep leading the world, the federal government must invest in science, basic research and innovation, just as we did decades after the Second World War. Whoever wins the race to the technologies of the future is going to be the global economic leader with profound consequences for foreign policy and national security as well.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell also gave his support for the bill, though he felt there were not enough Republican sponsors.

Needless to say, final passage of this legislation cannot be the Senate’s final word on our competition with China. It certainly won’t be mine.

‘Schumer’s office said 18 Republican amendments will have received votes as part of passage of the bill. It also said the Senate this year has already held as many roll call votes on amendments than it did in the last Congress, when the Senate was under Republican control,’ according to the AP.

Senator Rand Paul said the government should be cutting its spending, not increasing it. He said the agency is “the king of wasteful spending.”

The bill is nothing more than a big government response that will make our country weaker, not stronger.

At the time, I’m pretty sure we thought we were in a track meet where our competitor was, oh, I don’t know, maybe half a lap behind us. I’m pretty sure now as the decade has moved on, we’re looking over our shoulder and realizing that the competition is gaining.

This is an opportunity for the United States to strike a blow on behalf of answering the unfair competition that we are seeing from communist China.

It seems like we are in the middle of this process where we are questioning some of our assumptions.

Heeeere we go again: useless spending that the American taxpayer gets to pay for, and it again is blamed on CHINA. It was not long ago that the House, both Democrats and Republicans, were calling on the Federal Reserve to create a digital dollar to compete with CHINA. As mentioned before in other reports, in 2019 Trump signed in and funded new initiatives to increase the rollout of 5G and 6G, to compete and beat – you guessed it – CHINA.

And these are just some of the examples. Our useless government routinely just blames everything on China, Russia, or some Middle Eastern county, to justify its nefarious and devious acts.

So do not be surprised when this bill passes in Congress and Biden gives his signature to it. Not only that, did you notice how some things subtly relate to Agenda 2030 and Absolute Zero? Oh, but big-bold Rand Paul, the cryptic vaccine salesman, did not want to talk about that: just America’s boondoggling; even though him and all the rest get endless benefits that the people do not have, and must pay for. And then that clown wants to talk wasteful spending? Give me a break.
