Both space agencies said other nations may have access to the new facilities.
This announcement nears the 60th anniversary of Russia’s first manned space flight.
The agencies stated the International Scientific Lunar Station will carry out a wide variety of exploration and and utilization of the moon.
China and Russia will use their accumulated experience in space science, research and development and use of space equipment and space technology to jointly develop a road map for the construction of an international lunar scientific research station.

China and Russia will be collaborating in the planning, design, development and operation of the research station.
Chen Lan, an analyst who specialises in China’s space programme, told AFP news agency that the project was a “big deal,” reports the BBC.
This will be the largest international space cooperation project for China, so it’s significant.
China’s space exploration has steadily increased over the years, but the United States has been the uncontested leader in space exploration. The U.S. has announced plans to return the moon’s surface by 2024. The program is called Artemis, named after the Greek goddess and daughter of Zeus in Greek Mythology. The Roman equivalent is the name Diana, which is mentioned five times in the book of Acts in the King James Bible.
